haphazard fort in a backdrop
of lilting harps and piano.
Wooden reindeers dash over
a metal wire sky in a hushed
red-green glow from their reins.
A sweet, brisk aroma of white
crystallizes the air, pungent with
anticipation, wonder and euphoria.
The refreshing crrrrunch thrums
off frigid trees, their bare limbs
frames for the snow’s heaven.
I let the cold valiantly battle to
seep through my warm shell
my mind adrift in fairy tales past.
On earth’s gifted canvas I lie
profoundly content to be lost
in winter’s mirth and splendor.
