Strumming my Heart

lovemusic

I could scratch words into a tree,

but it would not withstand time’s disease.

I could buy your heart’s desire

but my pockets are empty like the gesture.

I could pretend that Valentine’s day is meaningful

but, love, you strum my heart everyday.

I can’t sing and you won’t dance,

so here’s my remedy, my best chance:

Baby I’ve been searching

like everybody else
Can’t say nothing

different about myself
Sometimes I’m an angel
And sometimes I’m cruel
But when it comes to love
I’m just another fool.*

A fool that believed that

there was no one for me,

until I met you,

But I couldn’t see how

happy I could be,

Until I met you.**

Where did I go wrong before you
Well, it seems like I was lost
You showed me how to do things right
I’m so glad that now you’re mine***

I see the best of me inside your eyes
You make me smile
You make me dance,
Just the thought of you can drive me wild****

Oh I adore the way you carry yourself
With the grace of a thousand angels overhead
I love the way the galaxy starts to melt
When we become one*****

And I’m melting in your eyes
Like my first time that I caught fire
Just stay with me lay with me******

Stay as long as you need,

Love is forever
Your forever is all that I need
Can’t promise that

things won’t be broken
But I swear that I will never leave
Please stay forever with me.*******

V-day is a spectacle I think we can honestly do without, but love is not. It essentially has become commercialism versus the intangible.  It’s never easy to express love.  The idea for this post came about because of my special someone’s love for music as well as my own.  I hope you enjoy and remember what love truly is. (P.S. I had the brilliant idea of putting the words into cascading hearts buuut thanks to word press automatically reconfiguring my text that didn’t happen).

Below, you can see the credits of the lyrics (some of the lyrics have been changed around a bit to adjust for flow and rhythm). I do not own any of these songs.

* “True Companion” – Marc Cohn

** “Until I Met You” – Sunstreak

*** “Better With You” – Five Times August

**** “You Make Me Smile” – Uncle Kracker

***** “So Much” – Spill Canvas

****** “I Caught Fire” – The Used

******* “James Dean Audrey Hepburn” – Sleeping with Sirens
